Pickaway County Court of Common Pleas

The Pickaway County Court of Common Pleas is the main trial court for the county. Its Domestic Relations Division handles all divorce, dissolution, legal separation, and annulment filings. This division also has authority over child custody, parenting time, child support, and spousal support matters. When divorcing parents have minor children, Ohio law requires them to complete a parenting education course. Every document filed in these cases becomes part of the family court record that the Clerk maintains at the courthouse in Circleville.

Probate and Juvenile Court Records

The Pickaway County Probate Court handles a wide range of family court records that fall outside the Domestic Relations Division. On the probate side, the court manages estate administration, guardianships for minors and adults, adoptions, marriage licenses, name changes, and mental health commitment cases. The juvenile side covers delinquency, unruly behavior, and abuse, neglect, and dependency proceedings. Under ORC Chapter 2151, juvenile records are generally sealed and not open to the public without a court order.

Marriage licenses are issued at the Probate Court in Circleville. Both people must appear in person with valid ID. The license fee is about $50 to $75. Certified copies of marriage certificates cost $2.00 each. Guardianship cases require background checks and ongoing annual reports to the court. Estate records in Pickaway County go back to the early 1800s when the county was first organized.
