Fairfield County Probate Court Records

The Fairfield County Probate Court is at 224 E. Main Street, Room 308, in Lancaster. This court handles estate administration, guardianships, adoptions, marriage licenses, name changes, and mental health commitment cases. Marriage licenses are issued by appointment only. You must fill out an online application first and then call (740) 652-7485 to schedule your visit. Both parties need to appear in person with valid photo ID.

The Probate Court is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Under ORC Chapter 2101, probate courts must maintain specific records including a marriage record, guardian's docket, and a separate index of adoptions. The law also requires that the general docket be available online for public access. Certified copies of marriage certificates cost $2.00 each.
