Cincinnati family court records are filed and maintained through the Hamilton County court system. As the county seat and the largest city in Hamilton County, Cincinnati has a large volume of family law cases on file. You can search for divorce records, custody orders, child support filings, and other family court documents through the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts. The office keeps records for the Municipal Court, Court of Common Pleas, and the 1st District Court of Appeals. Online search tools are available, and you can also visit the courthouse or send a written request by mail.

Hamilton County Family Court Records
Cincinnati falls under Hamilton County for family court matters. The Hamilton County Clerk of Courts is the official record keeper and agent of Hamilton County's Adult Justice System, led by Clerk Pavan V. Parikh. Deputy Clerks accept, handle, manage, and retain all legal documents filed through the Municipal Court, the Court of Common Pleas, and the 1st District Court of Appeals. The office also processes auto titles, watercraft titles, and passport applications.
The Court of Domestic Relations handles family law cases. That means divorce, dissolution, child custody, parenting time, and child support all go through this division. You can reach them at (513) 946-9000. The Juvenile Court at (513) 946-9200 handles matters that involve minors, such as abuse, neglect, dependency, and delinquency. All of these courts operate Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
For family court records in Cincinnati, the Domestic Relations Division is where most people start. Filing fees vary by case type. Standard copies are available at the Clerk's office for a per-page fee. Certified copies carry a higher charge. The office takes requests in person during business hours.
Cincinnati Court Records Search
The Hamilton County Records Search portal is the main tool for looking up Cincinnati family court records online. You can search by name across all courts, or narrow it down to just Criminal and Traffic, Common Pleas Civil, or Municipal Civil. Case number searches are also available. Court date lookups and ticket searches round out the options.
Under Rule 45(C) of the Rules of Superintendence for the Courts of Ohio, a clerk is not required to offer remote access to every case file. If you think a record exists but it is not showing online, go to the Clerk's office in person or submit an online request for a copy. Due to data mining, the redaction process has slowed down in some areas. You may need to submit a second request if a document is delayed.
The Hamilton County court records page also lets you search cases by name, number, or other party name. Background checks are available in person at the Justice Center, Room 100, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Cincinnati Probate Court Records
The Hamilton County Probate Court records search gives access to several types of family court records. The case search provides an index of all probate cases (except marriage license and mental health records). Click on "DETAIL" to view the case docket, and then click "PDF" to see an image of that docket entry.
Marriage license search covers all brides and grooms who applied in Hamilton County since January 1974. A partial index goes back to June 1973, though it is not complete. For records from 1808 to 1973, use the Marriage License Archive Search. Mental health records are indexed from January 1, 1987 forward. The archive search provides access to handwritten and typed records from bound volumes. That includes estates, wills, trusts, guardianships, marriages, minister's licenses, birth records, death records, naturalizations, and journal entries. The oldest records date from 1791.
The Probate Court is at the William Howard Taft Center, 230 E. 9th Street, Floor 10, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202. Call (513) 946-3589. Marriage licenses are issued Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Certified copies of marriage licenses are $2.00 per copy. Records are on the 9th floor in the Records Department, and in-person applications go until 3:45 PM.

Ohio Family Court Laws for Cincinnati
Ohio's Public Records Act (ORC 149.43) gives anyone the right to request public records. You do not have to give your name or reason. The Clerk must provide the records at cost in a reasonable time. If denied, the Clerk must state the legal basis in writing.
Divorce in Ohio is governed by ORC Chapter 3105. Ohio recognizes 11 grounds for divorce including incompatibility, which is the no-fault option. The petitioner must be an Ohio resident for at least six months before filing. Property division follows equitable distribution under ORC 3105.171. Child custody is governed by ORC Chapter 3109, which uses the best interest of the child standard. Juvenile court records are confidential under ORC Chapter 2151 and typically need a court order to access.
Adoption records in Ohio are sealed under ORC Chapter 3107. If you need an adoption record from Cincinnati, you must file a petition with the court. The judge will decide if there is good cause to unseal the file.
